John W. “Bud” O’Brien filed petitions with the Board of Elections on Friday April 29, 2011 for the newly elected office of Clerk of the Municipal Court.  The election will be held on November 8, 2011.

O’Brien states, “I have been considering a run for a new elected office in Miami County, the Clerk of the Municipal Court, over the past several weeks.  Several people urging me to get into the race have approached me and I have consulted my family, advisors and other elected officials about their thoughts on the subject.”

“I take my duties in elected office seriously and consider it a privilege to serve Miami County as Commissioner and previously as Recorder.  This has been a difficult decision and one I have weighed carefully.”

O’Brien continued, “My reasons behind this decision include; my long interest in the legal system, my experience with the local bar association and my extensive knowledge of Miami County’s finances.  I believe I am the most qualified person to take on the challenges of instituting professional practices in this office as its first elected official and keep it fiscally responsible.”

“I have a successful track record of managing people, budgets and technology in the private and public sector.  I will continue this record of success as Miami County’s first elected Clerk of the Municipal Court.”  O’Brien concluded.

This will be the first ever election for the position of Clerk of the Municipal Court in Miami County.  By Ohio Revised Code, once Miami County’s population goes over 100,000 the position goes from appointed by the Municipal Judges to an elected position.  The 2010 census results release recently had Miami County’s population over 102,000.
