Well, if you know me, you know I am a legal buff at heart.  I received my bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies after spending almost 10 years working for my father, a small town lawyer/prosecutor here in Ohio.  I have read all of Mr. Grisham’s books and was anxious to read his new book, The Litigators!

My husband had a company Christmas party in Chicago and this book became available to me at the Tipp City Public Library just before we were to leave.  With authors I love, I often request their books not even knowing what the story line is.  To my surprise this book was based in Chicago!  I loved the story line of the law firm, Finley & Figg, not to mention the Chicago references.

If you go to Mr. Grisham’s website you will see a funny legal infomercial about Finley & Figg law office that will make you chuckle… http://www.jgrisham.com/

The story line is that this two-person law firm, Finley & Figg, advertises themselves as a “boutique” firm.   However, with their office just happens to be located near the busiest intersection where accidents often happen.  They are actually what we would call “ambulance chasers” and not very prosperous.  Change happens when David Zinc has a breakdown at his stuffy, yet well paid, sweet-shop-type of job and gets drunk…later he ends up at the accident scene just outside Finley & Figg…therefore the change – David Zinc becomes part of the firm.

The offices of Finley & Figg soon after David’s arrival start to take on a big pharmaceutical company in a lawsuit.  Weaved throughout the book is David’s finding of a new way in the legal field, which is completely different then he is used to.   The best part is the sincere search by David and his wife for a way to help a family less fortunate.

The book is a page-turner and often has you laughing out loud (just like the infomercial).
