The 2nd place Port Huron Icehawks landed at Hara Arena this evening to defeat the Dayton Gems. Port Huron scored late in the 1st period. The Icehawks proceeded to put 2 more goals in the net in the 2nd. in the 3rd the Gems put their only point on the board when Tim Hartung scored with assists from Corey Couturier and Mike Vaskivuo. With only 27 seconds left in the game Port Huron found the Gems empty net. The final score Port Huron 4 – Dayton 1. The Gems are now 16-19-3-1.

Dayton Gems Sign Justin McCutcheon And Welcome Tom Michaels

The Dayton Gems, proud members of the International Hockey League, announced the signing of forward Justin McCutcheon to a contract. McCutcheon played his last 8 games for the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL with 2 goals and 1 assist for 3 points for 6 penalty minutes. A native of Ithaca New York he spent 3 years with the St. Thomas University Tommys and a year with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. The Gems have waived Chris Myhro.

Dayton Gems Lose To The Port Huron Icehawks 6 – 3

The Dayton Gems traveled to McMorran Arena in Port Huron to take on the International Hockey League leaders the Icehawks. The Gems worked it in the first period. Daytons Mike Vaskivuo scored just before the halfway mark in the period with the aid of Bryan Nathe and Jon Ornelas. Less than a minute later the Gems scored during a powerplay it was A.J. MacLean with the help of Captian Greg Labenski and John Snowden. Port Huron got their 1st point when they scored on a powerplay.
