CRESTVIEW HEIGHTS, Ky. – Tipp City resident Jim Dabbelt, executive director of The Dabbelt Report, was selected as an assistant coach to the Ohio girls basketball team, as they played in their annual rivalry against their counterparts from the south, as the 19th Annual Ohio-Kentucky Game was held on April 10 at Thomas More College in northern Kentucky.

Ohio’s team, consisting of 16 of the top seniors from the Buckeye State, jumped out to a 17-2 lead, en route to an 84-55 win over the Kentucky squad.  It marked only the second time in seven years that Ohio has won the annual contest.

Four of the girls on the squad are from the Dayton area, including Allie Turner of Greenon, Cassie Sant of Fairmont, Courtney Boyd of Brookville and Kacie Cassell of Vandalia-Butler.

“It was a great experience for the girls to be a part of this event,” Dabbelt said.  “The girls and coaches really formed a good bond over the weekend, and it will exciting to follow them as they go off to college next year and play at the next level.”

Dabbelt, a 1986 Tippecanoe graduate, founded the runs The Dabbelt Report, considered the premier source in Ohio for girls basketball.

With the March 2nd 68 -42 win over Eaton, Coach Matt Pond became the head coach with the most wins in Red Devil Basketball history.

During the exciting 2009 season, Coach Pond’s Red Devils defense held most teams to under 40 points of offense. He is fond of saying ”they can’t beat you, if they can’t score” This powerful trust in his team joined with his sharp coaching skills has allowed Coach Pond to rack up an amazing 166 wins in just ten seasons surpassing Frank Goldsberry, who had 165. The Red Devils completed their 2009 season at 18-5.

The Red Basketball awards banquet was held March 23rd. 3rd year letters winners were, David Moore, Alex Davis and Mack Malarkey. 2nd year awards went to Shadi Rabi, Eric Seger, Ryan Landwehr and Alex Trotter. 1st year awards went to Zach Langdon, Jesse Davis, Cody Gingerich, Brent Powell, Mikey Calicoat and Ryan French. Individual team awards went to: Most assists-David Moore, Most Rebounds- Alex Davis, Highest Foul Shot %- Eric Seger, Top Scholar-Ryan Landwehr, “Warrior”-Shadi Rabi, Coaches Award- Eric Seger. State Scholastic Awards for 3.2 or higher grade point average: Gold- Ryan Landwehr and Eric Seger, Silver- Ryan French, Cody Gingerich and Brent Powell. Special Thanks went to long time scorekeeper Rick Skinner.

The Tippecanoe Red Devils took on the Stebbins Indians yesterday night at home. The Red Devils had a great deal of support from the fans. The Dayton CW and Sinclair Community College also came out to support the Mens Varsity team. With a final score of 68-30 the Red Devils added another win to their season.
