Obese individuals must attend doctor’s appointments far more because of a possible development of diseases such as osteoarthritis or diabetes. Unfortunately, not every business is ran under an equal opportunity employer which means if a certain type of business does not want overweight individuals as employees, a new obstacle is set in their path. Obese individuals must overcome copious amounts of obstacles, are at the risk of overweight related diseases and unfortunately may have a reduced income due to unequal opportunities.

Being overweight is a very complicated circumstance. When someone is overweight, they become distressed and have a low self-esteem. This causes people to “comfort eat”. It seems quite redundant to eat because of being obese due to over eating, however, food becomes something that seems like it’s the only thing an individual can fall back on. There are serious personal factors and financial situations that come along with this. Overweight individuals are commonly portrayed as people who are only associated with negative personality traits. This plays a major role in consideration for a job. If an employer sees you as someone who isn’t people friendly, socially unacceptable or in general not as intelligent as another candidate, it becomes increasing hard to receive a job offer. It may not come as a shock to hear that after conducting multiple experiments and studies that obesity most significantly affects females. Men, as shown in recent studies, were only affected with employment when their weight was significantly higher than most. This goes to show that even sex plays a role in equal job opportunities for the obese. Those who are overweight do not necessarily spend more on food products, which may come as a surprise. This causes the medical view on their life to be taken seriously. So seriously that because of statistics showing a higher death rate in those who are obese, their medical expenses are increased. This doesn’t help obese people out of their stress either. Being charged more in medical expenses plus not making as much money in their lives comes out to lead to a vast amount of debt.

You would think the unfortunate financial burden on overweight people was enough however, there is also a huge impact on the way they live their life. Daily tasks become a hassle for obese people. Simply walking up a flight of stairs may cause them to lose their breath or contract enormous pains in
their knees and feet. Dependent on the extremity of their weight, some obese people cannot purchase normal furniture due to their weight not being taken account for in the standard size. In today’s society, no one can worry only about themselves. Obese people may feel uncomfortable out in public and like they do not fit in. Some people do not even take their feelings into effect. Right now, you are probably sitting in a chair, a standard sized chair, and you are not worried about the effect your weight might have on that chair. Our everyday activities become a worry to overweight individuals. One quality of life that may be important to many of you would be your sexual experience. A study conducted in 2004 by Duke University showed that those who are overweight are more prone to having sexual difficulties due to dysfunction

This unfortunately elevates the risk of horrifying health conditions. When someone is diagnosed obese or even in general just feels overweight, their self-esteem becomes lower, and they view themselves as unattractive. This causes others to also portray them as someone who is undesirable. Conducted studies show that upper-middle class Americans, when looked upon in a larger view and generalized, are less likely to be overweight due to their belief that thinner individuals hold the ideal body weight. These people may also be prone to view the obese negatively. Directly correlating with weight is
wealth which is why when analyzing the wealthy, the vast majority of the population is thinner.

Obesity in children is on the rise and becoming increasingly high. The North American Association for the Study of Obesity researched the acceptance of overweight children by their normal weight classmates and their study suggested that rejection appeared more in the acceptance of overweight children. Boys were teased verbally and in some instances physically insulted while the girls weren’t accepted into friend groups and received increasingly large amount of cruelty. The overweight girls were
also less likely to find significant others. Reports showed that overweight children had less satisfaction with their standing in the realm of dating. This, unfortunately, may allow for psychological issues especially
when treated unfairly while at a young age. Due to social rejection, obese adolescents are subject to dangerous situations such as smoking, drinking, or engaging in sexual intercourse in order to gain attention at a significantly young age. Emotional scarring takes place in these circumstances and becomes hard to recover because of the prejudice toward obese individuals.

health risks and diseases. Children who are overweight tend to be socially rejected and scarred emotionally. The culture of today portrays obese people negatively to us but who are we to judge them? Nobody is perfect.
