TIPP CITY – Council held a special meeting Wednesday to approve two more purchases in preparation for Abbott’s factory completion.
The first is vacuum reclosers and wire from Westco for $70,519.68.
According to City Manager Jon Crusey, the reclosers will be placed on the line extension installed for the Abbott project on County Road 25A.
” We have reclosers throughout our electric system and generally speaking they serve as safety equipment to protect the substations,” Crusey said.
When a fault occurs on the system, such a tree falling on a line or an animal getting caught in the lines, the reclosers are set typically to operate two or three times before they close out. By that time the fault often clears itself. If not, then the recloser will stayed closed and prevent the fault from carrying back to the substation.
The second purchase is through HD Supply. The city will be buying metering enclosures for the Abbott facility at the cost of $29,508.
Also on Wednesday, council approved an agreement with the Downtown Tipp City Partnership to hold “HarvestFest” on Sept. 5.
The agreement allows the partnership to close down the street and to sell alcohol on public property (temporarily).
The Halloween party is scheduled for Oct. 13.
