But only ONE day to enjoy it all…
December 1, 2012
Downtown Tipp City merchants are embracing the popular Dec. 1 Christmas In the Village /Holiday Home Tour celebration in a variety of creative ways. And when it comes to getting “into the spirit,” Sweet By Kristy and Living Simply Soap pulled out all the stops, creating special products to spotlight the celebration. These products – a festive taste treat and a richly scented bar of soap – promise visitors a little take-home holiday spirit plus an opportunity to support worthwhile local causes. The products are on sale right now until the day of the Home Tour.
Living Simply Soap’s offering is a gaily wrapped bar of handmade olive oil soap scented in “Victorian Christmas,” which features a hint of apple and plenty of cinnamon and cloves. Priced at $5.95 per bar, the scent alone will bring back warm memories of holidays past. The shop is donating $1.25 from each sale to Tipp Monroe Community Services (TMCS) and to the Downtown Tipp City Partnership (DTCP). Sweet By Kristy is selling Yuletide Yum, a vanilla cupcake with an eggnog butter cream frosting dusted with nutmeg and topped by an edible gum paste gingerbread man. Priced at $4 each, 20% from each cupcake sale will be donated to TMCS and the DTCP.
Proceeds from this year’s Home Tour and Christmas In The Village will benefit the TMCS Lunch On Us program and the DTCP’s Healthy Community Market and Business Incubator.
The Lunch On Us Program provides a free lunch during the summer months to children of all ages. The program begins in June after school is out and concludes until mid August. It is available Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Tipp City United Methodist Church.
The Healthy Community Market will kick off in the spring of 2013 and will feature locally grown produce and an emphasis on nutrition, preventive wellness, fitness and community unity. The business incubator program will assist new and struggling business owners with enhancing their knowledge base, working with other business owners, promoting their shops, enhancing their facades and interiors, and finetuning their overall business practices.
Other local businesses will be offering discounts or special activities to visitors who show their Home Tour tickets. Participants include Cairns Toys, Coldwater Cafe, Eunice’s Antiques, Harrison’s Restaurant, Living Simply Soap, Midwest Memories, Urban Ava, Old Tippecanoe Coffee Company, Sam & Ethel’s, and Lasting Impressions, a new floral shop in town that is also holding its grand opening that weekend. Other activities during the event include live music at the Tipp City Public Library, a Studio 14 holiday art show featuring abstracts and hand-blown glass, and a Window Wonderland Decorating contest, where the public can vote on the best shop window in town. Additionally, Crossroads Consignments will be auctioning off its popular white Christmas tree.
The Tippecanoe Historical Society is also stepping up in a big way. The Society has researched the histories of the 2012 Tour Homes and the results can be viewed at the Historical Society Museum, 20 N. Third St, in the “Then & Now on N. Third Street” display. Additionally, local historian Susan Furlong will sign her book Tippecanoe to Tipp City: First 100 Years on tour day. The Society is also presenting costumed docents, dressed as historic N. Third St. residents, who will share their memories of Tipp City.
The annual celebration is organized by the Downtown Tipp City Partnership and the Tipp Monroe Community Services. For more information about the celebration, please refer to: www.DowntownTippCity.org or www.TMComServices.org, or call 937-667-0883.
