Fake Pipe Bombs turning up in Miami County

This morning I was alerted to a report  by WHIO Dayton Channel 7 where yesterday a mail carrier found a suspicious package on the porch of a home in northern Huber Heights. The bomb squad responded to the call and sent in the robot to retrieve and remotely detonate the device. After inspection officials identified that the pipe bomb was “fake” and was not explosive.

This morning on Facebook, I was alerted by one of our fans that a similar device was found yesterday in Tipp City which of course precipitated a call to the Tipp City Police Department.

Chief Tom Davidson shared with me that a similar device was indeed found at a home on Gingham Fredrick Road off of 25A. While the home had a Tipp City address, it was officially outside of Tipp City’s jurisdiction so that Miami County Sheriff’s office handled the situation.  “As I remember, that was kind of a fake bomb like the one found in Huber”, stated Chief Davidson, “they had 25A closed off for a while while they handled the situation”.
