Price of Fame for Tiger Woods

For all financial fortunes and other benefits that come with being a celebrity, Tiger Woods is learning that fame also comes with a price. I have a hard time feeling much sympathy for the prestigious pro-golfer over his infidelities, he made his bed and now he has to lay, or whatever it is that he does, in it.
Some feel that he’s been treated unfairly because he’s such a public figure, that the normal citizen who commits adultery isn’t the top story on every news show. While I agree there are much more important world affairs…or should I say, happenings that should be covered with such thoroughness I feel that Tiger deserves the humiliation. He wanted the press around when he won a major tournament and relished being on television while endorsing products for millions of dollars, now wants secrecy when his sinful nature is being explored.
All I have to do is see a picture of Tiger’s wife, and my remorse for him is gone. She is a beautiful blonde, former model, mother of his two young children and it wasn’t enough for him.
While not envious of his skills on the course, as golf has never been a drawl to me, I would give anything to have the love of such a dazzling woman. Granted that her beauty may only be skin deep, but that still doesn’t make her deserving of such treatment. Tiger had it all, a trophy wife and a big bank account, yet he wanted even more.
Beyond the questions of why, I ask myself, how? If Tiger and other such celebrities are always deprived of any type of a personal life and can’t go anywhere without the papparazzi all over them, how did he manage so much private time with a myraid of different women? I can’t even walk down the alcohol aisle at the grocery store without being seen by someone from church. There is no way I could ever get away with having a secret rendevous, and nobody would even care if I did or not. Tiger, however is followed, so how did he manage it all without ever getting caught?
Yes, fame does come with a price; people care when you do great things, but even more when you miss (screw) up.

Mike,As always your point of view is refreshingly insighful. No matter that the ubiquitous topic of celebrity infidelity can threaten to make us calloused, your words made us think. Great piece. I hope we see more of this kind of writing from you.

Amen. Very well said and I agree wholeheartedly. He certainly had/has enough money to divorce her if she no longer met his needs. The humiliation of divorce would have been nothing compared to the humiliation he is feeling now. I find it hard to believe when people cheat and say they didn't leave their spouse first because they still love/are in love with them. Love = RESPECT. Cheating is not respect.
