Tis’ the season of giving and spreading joy to those in need this holiday.
Join the 2015 Relay For Life of Miami County in giving back to the community during the annual Give Back Rally on Tuesday, December 16 at the Miami Valley Centre Mall Banquet Room.
This year, the committee will be putting together kits of hope for newly diagnosed cancer patients in Miami County. These kits will be donated to the Dayton Physicians through Upper Valley Medical Center. These kits will include a handmade blanket and card of encouragement inside a reusable shopping bag.
Everyone is welcome to attend the event and help make these items. Donations of these items made prior to the event are also welcome.
There will be two options for the handmade blankets. We will be making a sewn and a no-sew version. The supplies needed to make the sewn blanket include two yards of fleece fabric, scissors, matching thread and a sewing machine. The supplies needed to make a no-sew blanket are two and two thirds yards of fleece fabric and scissors. The fabric needed for each type of blanket can be divided between two patterns of fabric if desired.
Reusable grocery bags large enough to fit a standard blanket are needed. The homemade cards of encouragement can be decorated to your choosing. The only requirement is that each card contains messages of hope and comfort.
“I think the give back rally is a great way to further involve our community in giving back to those in need of hope and support this holiday season,” says Nicole Bolin, 2015 Relay For Life of Miami County Event Lead. “With this donation, I hope that we are able to provide some comfort to cancer patients during their treatments and show them that we are behind them 100% in their fight against cancer.”
