Library News: National Library Week

Tipp City Public Library is your family’s Discovery Zone for great programs and activities during National Library Week, April 12 – 17.

Each day local officials and business leaders will take their turn behind the circulation desk. Along with the laughs, it will be a great chance for you to meet Tipp City’s leaders, and see how well they can cope with a short stint as a guest librarian.

MONDAY, APRIL 12

Join The Mystery Lovers Book Discussion Group for Discover… Intrigue at 7 p.m., when the group considers Tears of the Giraffe by Alexander McCall Smith. This is the second entry in the charming No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

Everyone is invited. Copies of the book, both written and audio productions, are available at the front desk. Dessert and refreshments will be served.

TUESDAY, APRIL 13

Families are invited to Discover … Critters in Your Backyard at 6:30 p.m. All ages will enjoy learning about local wildlife when they attend this entertaining presentation from Firefly Fran of the Miami County Parks Department. Live animals will be featured.

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 14

One year-olds and caregivers can Discover… Little Ducklings Story Time at 10 a.m. The program will include stories and songs. It’s a great way to introduce your little one to library programs. Registration is requested.

Next, at noon it’s time for Discover… New Ideas when local resident, Pat Schaefer shares simple and inexpensive decorating tips to make your home look great. It’s a brown bag lunch program, so pack something good to eat and the library will provide refreshments. Registration is required.

Later that day at 4:30 p.m., fourth and fifth graders are invited to Discover… Haiku. During the program, students will create and illustrate a haiku poem. Registration is requested.

In the evening at 6:30 p.m., there are two events of interest for adults. Choose from Discover… Strategy, which in reality is a rousing game of Pinochle. There’s a short refresher on how to play, and the game begins at 7 p.m.

Also at 6:30 p.m., you can learn about all things Tipp City if you attend Discover… Your Town’s History. The program will be presented by your friends and neighbors from the Tippecanoe Historical Society.

THURSDAY, APRIL 15

Second and third graders will enjoy stories, snacks, crafts, and games when they come to Discover… Buggy Business at 4:30 p.m. Registration is required.

Later that evening at 6:30 p.m., area gardeners are invited to Discover… Plants in Your Backyard. Members of Tipp City’s America in Bloom Committee will offer ways to beautify your backyard with plants including this town’s official flower, the Pride of Tipp Mum.

FRIDAY, APRIL 16

The entire evening from 7 to 11 p.m., will be devoted to Discover FUN! At Your Library. All ages are invited to play putt-putt golf on the finest, library, in-door golf course in the country. Also, visitors can enjoy various other activities and challenges such as a trivia game for adults and a scavenger hunt for children. There will be refreshments and prizes, too.

SATURDAY, APRIL 17

Tweens and Teens will Discover… Zen at their yoga class set for 1 p.m. Family members of participants are also welcome. Always bring a mat or blanket to yoga.

The final National Library Week event is Discover… Your Green Thumb, also at 1 p.m. Simply thin-out some of your perennials, and bring them to the library for a swap with other gardeners. Please include plant labeling so everyone knows what they are taking home.
