Eric Combs, author of the newly published book entitled, Mission Critical, A Veteran’s Tour of Duty Inside Public Education was recognized on Thursday, June 19th, 2014 as a School Security Expert by the Maryland Center for School Safety.
About the Center for School Safety
The Center was established as an independent unit of State government in July 2013 by Maryland’s Governor. To goals for the Center is to provide a coordinated and comprehensive policy for school safety in Maryland, the Center collaborates with local school systems, law enforcement agencies, State and local government, community organizations, parents, and other groups. Combs’ recognition by the Center comes at a time when more and more questions continue to arise on the ACTUAL preparedness of our schools across the country when it comes to violence in our schools.

On Thursday, Combs was the keynote speaker on school security to nearly 150 Maryland School Resource Officers (SRO), as well as officers who were engaged during the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting. The moving presentation made by the Sandy Hook officers drew many parallels to the recommendations that Combs continues to make regarding school security policies. It is with Combs military background, as well as his time spent as a teacher and school administrator where he tries to make sense of sensitive topics and provide understandable and reasonable policies for school districts to execute in order to protect their teachers and students.
