MILTON-UNION PUBLIC LIBRARY’S DECEMBER HAPPENINGS

Santa Claus is Coming to the Library! – Tuesday, December 13 @ 6 p.m.

Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to land at the Milton-Union Public Library on Tuesday, December 13 at 6 p.m. to visit and have pictures taken with the children until 7:30 p.m.  One photo will be provided by the New Friends of the Library and feel free to bring your own camera to capture the fun.  Each child will also receive a small gift, thanks to the generosity of the Troy Kohl’s Department Store.

Children’s Librarian Sharon Callicoat has a craft planned for families to work on while waiting to see Santa. Everyone is invited to enjoy scrumptious cookies and punch furnished and served by the Friends!  Families can sign up for a chance to win a donated Christmas prize basket filled with books, DVDs and other goodies.  This chance is exclusive to attendees of the party.

The party is FREE and open to ALL families in the community!

December Story Times at the Library

All children ages 3 through 5 are invited to join in listening to stories, watching a puppet play and making a simple craft.  No reservations are needed for story times and all activities are free.

Following are dates, times and themes for this month’s events:

Wednesday, December 7 @ 10:30—”Friends & Family”

Wednesday, December 14 @ 10:30—”Christmas

Parents, grandparents and babysitters are reminded to take advantage of story times which can be a great alternative activity to do with children.  The winter session of story time will begin in January.

Library Book Discussion Groups

The library hosts three book discussion groups, two are in-house and one is at McKinley Commons.  This month they meet as follows:

Thursday, December 1 @ 2:30, McKinley Commons—”Deadly Harvest” by Heather Graham and “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien

Monday, December 5 @ 7 p.m.— “A Christmas in Plains” by Jimmy Carter

Thursday, December 8 @ Noon—”The Handmaid & the Carpenter” by Elizabeth Berg

Crafty Listeners: 1 to 2:30 each Monday at the Library

The Crafty Listeners continue to meet each Monday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the library (except on Monday holidays).  They listen to an audio-book while working on individual handcrafts such as embroidery, knitting, crocheting and quilting.

The ladies welcome anyone to join them!  If you just want to sit and listen, you are invited, too.  If you’d like to participate, just stop in on a Monday afternoon.

So the library staff may celebrate the holidays, the library will be closed on Saturday, December 24, Monday, December 26, Saturday, December 31 and Monday, January 2.

The Milton-Union Public Library is located at 560 S. Main Street, West Milton and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information, please stop by, call at 698-5515 or visit www.mupubliclibrary.org.
