Nearly $25K Rounds Out 2014 Foundation Awards

As 2014 drew to a close, the Tipp Foundations’ Distribution Committee met for its fourth and final 2014 session to award grants. After reviewing many strong requests for funding, final selections were made. Robots, experiments that go “boom”, and theatre stage design were among the many projects funded. In the end, eight organizations were chosen to receive 15 awards totaling $24,986.37.

The following is a list of the recipients, grant amounts awarded, and the purposes being funded.

Bethel After Prom, $500, supports the parent-led Bethel High School After Prom, which offers an alcohol- and drug-free environment for BHS prom attendees in the Spring of 2015.

Bethel Hope, $993.33, assists citizens of Bethel Township and the surrounding areas in meeting basic needs during times of critical personal downturns. Needs met include food assistance, utility support, help with rent and pharmacy aid.

Bethel Local Schools, $1,126.77, excites 7th and 8th grade students about science through five hands on experiments. Historically popular lab tests, (such as “blowing something up while wearing goggles”), will be among the experiments. It makes us all remember why science was so much fun to learn!

GIVE Medical Ministry, $1,332, purchases medical lift chairs and knee walkers for lending. This equipment assures the safety of those with mobility disabilities. Often the equipment on loan has been gifted through private individuals, but in 2014 the demand exceeded the gifting rate.

Needy Baskets, $2,000, helps this agency meet an expanding demand at the Holiday season.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $3,187.50, replaces current district-wide AED units with modern units.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $2,599, nurtures scientific inquiry for 5th graders through an extended COSI field trip in Spring 2015.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $2,235.50, adds e-books to the virtual library collection of the High School. These e-books represent literature reference sets totaling 295 volumes.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $2,000, trains a teacher for the exciting new Robotics STEM course coming to the mathematics department.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $1,500, supports the behind-the-scenes work of the theatre program by purchasing a SawStop Table Saw.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $872, strengthens listening skills through the purchase of REDCAT, an audio enhancement system that amplifies teachers’ voices in 2nd grade classrooms. This audio device amplifies the instructor so that students don’t miss important information.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $337.12, increases technology-infused learning through a Technological Media Touch Screen. Study groups of any size will access a multi-function, adaptable touch screen monitor to view the work of each other.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools, $665.15, serves over 100 Nevin Coppock students annually through interactive books, flash cards, read alongs and phonics based on the Hot Dots Program. This program is aligned with the Common Core State Standards in Language Literacy.

Tipp City Parks Department, $2,388, purchases a new picnic table, grill and bike rack in Canal Lock Park. This grant was awarded from the Warren E. Miltenberger Fund, established in 2008 to support public parkland and natural areas.

Tippecanoe Historical Society, $3,250, defrays the costs of major structural repairs on the building that houses some of Tipp City’s historical treasures.

Since 1943, the Tipp City Area Community Foundations has awarded $1,750,319 in grants as of December 31, 2013. Members of the Distribution Committee are Jim Ranft, chair, Heather Bailey, Dave Grim, Claire Cain Timmer and Jackie Wahl. Other trustees include Jesse Chamberlain, Joan Creech, Mike Lightle, Jim McKee and Marilyn Richards.

The Tipp City Area Community Foundations is a member fund of The Troy Foundation. If you would like information about how to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation, or how your organization can apply for a grant, please contact Jim Ranft at (937) 667-1270.
