Timmer, George Christopher, 70 of Tipp City, OH passed away peacefully on January 6, 2014. A lifelong native of Tipp City, George was known for his calm demeanor, strong work ethic and his abundant generosity.

As a Tippecanoe Red Devil, George was captain of the football team and Tipp City’s first recipient of the Scholar Athlete Award. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where he played lacrosse and was a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity. After graduating from Cornell George returned to Tipp City to work as a third generation member of the family business; Tip Top Canning Company, where he worked until retiring as president. An active member of the community, George was a volunteer firefighter, a member of Tipp City Council, a member of the Monroe Federal Board of Directors, serving as chairman in his last years of service. His serving attitude continued as he was a member of the Tipp City United Methodist Church, serving as chairman of the Administrative Board as well as chairman of the Building Committee.

The son of the late Thomas Timmer, George is survived by his mother; Rosemarie Timmer, Fort Myers, FL, wife; Kimberly Timmer, Tipp City, brothers; Tom Timmer, Floresville, TX and Peter (Carol) Timmer, Santa Rosa, CA, his sons; Joel Timmer, Fort Worth, TX and Matt (Claire) Timmer, Tipp City, daughter; Trish Brookhart; Orlando, FL and three grandsons; Bailey, Wade and Harrison Timmer, Tipp City.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 12, 2014 at the Tipp City United Methodist Church, corner of Third and Main St., Tipp City, Pastor Bonita Wood officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Contributions may be made in loving memory of George to; Tipp Educational Endowment Fund, Tipp City United Methodist Church Renovation Fund or Alzheimer’s Association-Miami Valley; Local Family Services, 31 Whipp Rd. Dayton, OH 45459. Arrangements have been entrusted to FRINGS AND BAYLIFF FUNERAL HOME 327 W. Main St., Tipp City, OH 45371.
