Ohio Galaxies FC announces 2013 Vincent J. Kohen Memorial Scholarship Recipients

Xenia, Ohio. Ohio Galaxies FC is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 Vincent J. Kohen Memorial Scholarships.  This year’s winners are Sarah Jansing and Jacob Denlinger.

The Vincent J. Kohen Memorial Scholarship Fund was set up to honor Mr. Kohen and recognize graduating seniors who show qualities similar to those exhibited by Mr. Kohen: leadership; hard work; and the determination to achieve their best both on and off the soccer field.

Sarah JansingSarah Jansing is a 2013 graduate of Alter High School.  Sarah played for Ohio Galaxies FC from 2009-2013 and was coached in the OGFC program by Pat Ferguson.  Sarah played on the Alter varsity team for 4 years, serving as the team captain her senior year.   Her soccer accomplishments include selection to GGCL second team during her senior season.  Sarah was significantly involved in a variety of school and community based organizations. Sarah will be attending Ursuline College in Cleveland, Ohio this fall where she plans to major in nursing and play college soccer for the NCAA Division II Arrows.

Jacob DenlingerJacob Denlinger is a 2013 graduate of Miamisburg High School. Jacob played for Ohio Galaxies FC from 2009-2013 and was coached in the OGFC program by Neil Daniels, Isa Arazi and Greg Trosper.  Jacob played high school soccer for Miamisburg High school and led the varsity team in goals scored in both his junior and senior seasons.  He was first team all GWOC conference and was a first team MVSSCA all area selection in his senior year. Jacob’s was involved in a variety of school and community organizations throughout his high school career.  Jacob will be attending Ohio Northern University and playing soccer for the NCAA Division III Polar Bears.

Vince Kohen was a pioneer in the early days of soccer in the Dayton area, and his vision and leadership helped this region become one of the most successful youth soccer areas in the country. Vince Kohen will long be remembered for his passion for helping kids, through the game of soccer, and for building the foundation for Dayton area club soccer. His legacy continues with his players who have moved into the coaching ranks and now pass these same traits on to the youth players of this generation. Vince Kohen passed away September 17th, 2010.

 

OGFC extends a special thank you to the Scholarship committee members for their work reviewing all of our qualified applicants. The Ohio Galaxies FC organization is proud of the accomplishments of both Sarah and Jacob and wishes them the best as they embark on their next journey.
