TIPP TALK – STOP SIGNS AND WINTER’S GATHERING

November 22
by Greg Enslen

Clarification on Stop Signs and Traffic Lights in Tipp City. Here’s something I’ve learned just since I started writing this column – I’m incapable of writing my column and having a conversation at the same time!  Last week my signals got crossed and I mentioned a stop sign coming out of the Library and turning onto Donn Davis and how it made no sense to me – of course I meant coming out of the Post Office, not the library.  Why do I have to stop for non-existent traffic when the Post Office is one of the busiest buildings in town – shouldn’t it have the right of way?  I also mentioned that turning right from Park onto Hyatt was not allowed.  I should have said that turning right on red is not allowed.  For that matter, why can’t you make a right on red driving east at Hyatt and Main?  I’ve seen many folks race through the yellow so they can turn instead of having to sit through the red light.  Is that really safer than allowing folks to turn right on red?

Folks also seemed to be confused about Donn Davis Way.  There are two different Donn Davis Ways, one behind the library and one out by the High School.  It’s in the long-term city plan to connect those two roads, I think, but for now we have two roads with the same name.  Have any intersections you’d like to see changed/improved?  Shoot me an email at genslen@yahoo.com.

Winters Yuletide Gathering was a Blast! Thanks to all the shoppers and visitors who made it out for the annual Winter’s Yuletide Gathering, our annual shopkeepers open house.  Visitors and locals alike came downtown and enjoyed great sales, carolers and carriage rides.  I heard the line at Harrison’s was two hours long and that you couldn’t even get into Cairns Toys – maybe they should hire those Japanese subway workers, whose sole job it is to stuff as many riders in as possible!  Every dollar that was spent locally helped keep money (and tax dollars) in our community and supported local businesses and shopkeepers.  Help us continue the trend by resisting the temptation to shop at Target and spending some of your Christmas dollars downtown!

The Downtown Tipp City Partnership and Tipp City Visitor’s Bureau completed and distributed an all-new printed, full-color downtown Visitor’s Guide just in time for the Winter’s Yuletide Gathering.  If you would like your own copy, drop by one of the downtown shops or the Chamber of Commerce.  Or go to the Visitor’s Bureau website at www.visittippcity.org and download your own copy!

Sam and Ethel’s looks great – I got a chance to poke my head in there on their opening weekend, and the place looks amazing.  They’ve got everything fixed up and are looking forward to rolling out their full menu starting Monday, November 23.  Drop by and tell them how happy you are to see another restaurant in the downtown, especially one with such a storied Tipp City history.  And their sign looks amazing – it’s the old sign, redone and looking awesome!  When you’re inside, take a look at the great work they did on the floors – all the woodwork inside was recreated and the chairs and booths redone to match the original furnishings.
