The Ohio School Board’s Association publishes “Facts in a Flash” which is a weekly Legislative Update: click on the link http://ealerts.osba-ohio.org/msgs/764.html to read the full report. Here are a couple of facts that may be of interest.

Ohio Statehouse

In the Ohio House, Rep. Brian Williams (D-Akron), the outgoing chair of the House Education Committee, joined Rep. Kris Jordan (R-Powell), a vocal Republican proponent of school choice, to offer tax credit legislation supporting private school scholarships for K-12 students.
Rep. Jordan’s legislation, House Bill (HB) 610, would allow businesses, community organizations and individual taxpayers to provide local support for private education. Students in public schools and private institutions sanctioned by the state would be eligible to apply for the scholarships. Under the legislation, students also would need to have a family income at or below 300% of the eligibility level for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program. HB 610 would authorize a total of $20 million for private school scholarships of $4,250 in grades K-eight and $7,000 in grades nine-12. Funds would pass through the 501(c)(3) Education Scholarship Organizations (ESO) on their way to eligible students.
