Tipp City Schools Quick News: 4.16.10

  • Broadway’s parent organization, PALS, will host its annual Fun Fair from 5 to 9 p.m., April 23.  In addition to traditional carnival games, food, and beverages, the indoor event will include Sponge Bob Play Zone, a 22-foot Roaring River Slide and games by Big Robot Game Café. Children can “become” tennis pros with Schroeder Tennis or a rock star with the aid of Broadway Hair Studio.  Most games cost 1 to 2 tickets ($0.50 ea.)  A Children’s raffle will include a Nintendo DSi as one of the grand prizes.  Mark your calendar!
  • REMINDER – SENIOR GIRLS:  Community Minded Women hope you plan to attend the annual Senior Tea at  2 p.m., May 11, at Club 55 in Troy.  R.S.V.P. for this special event is due in the Guidance Office by Friday, April 23.   Please do not disappoint your mother. Submit 1-5 photos of yourself, age kindergarten to 12th grade for the slide show in a labeled envelope.  Plan to arrive early for formal photographs. (Doors will open at 1 p.m.)
  • Miami Valley Career Technology Center recently honored two Tipp City students as inductees into the National Technical Honor Society.  The awards were based upon GPA, attendance, passing all parts of Ohio Graduation Test and instructor recommendations. Congratulations to Matthew Begley, who is enrolled in Precision Machining, and Lauren Griesmeyer, who is enrolled in Cosmetology.  They were among 54 students who received $1,000 scholarships.  Congratulations also to Griesmeyer who served on the MVCTC Prom Court representing SkillsUSA.  Visit mvctc.com to view the high-tech news releases!
  • Congratulations to the THS Devilaires Dance Team for their performance last weekend at State/Nationals.  The team competed in the lyrical division, received a High Superior and placed second in the State.  Tryouts for next year will begin with clinics from 6 to 8 p.m., May 10, 11, and 13 at Tippecanoe Middle School.  Tryouts will begin at 4 p.m., Fri., May 14, at the high school.  Contact Denise Moore for details: dmoore@tippcity.k12.oh.us
  • The TMS Outdoor Club will conduct its second annual community service project, Mutant Sewage Busters, on Thursday, April 29. The free outdoor challenge-program is sponsored by Miami County Parks, in conjunction with the Tipp City Engineer and Miami Soil and Water Conservation District.  Club members will identify and paint storm drains in the city.   • Good luck to the TMS and two THS Destination Imagination Teams at state competition on Saturday!
  • Nevin Coppock second graders explored the science of sound in their classrooms on April 7, when staff from the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery presented, “Sounds Like Science”. Through various hands-on activities  students were able to see and feel how sound moves through different types of matter.  Students also made their own “phone” to take home and share with their family and friends. Phone plans include unlimited minutes!
  • The “flatlands” are alive with the sound of music!  Students at Broadway and Nevin Coppock hosted ensembles from the Dayton Philharmonic this week.  First grade students will enjoy Orchestra and You next week.
  • Broadway kindergarteners enjoyed a “lost in space” experience today as Mr. Gingerich conducted a Star Lab journey.  The Star Lab is an inflatable planetarium where the students can view stars and constellations.
  • Next week is Grandparents’ Lunch week at Nevin Coppock. Check with your student for times and dates. They will also host a Book Fair.  Great opportunity for grandparents to select a book to share with the children.

  • Congressman John Boehner will host an information night for all U. S. Military Service Academies from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, at the Crystal Room, 845 West Market St. in Troy. If you are interested in applying to the Naval Academy, Merchant Marines, West Point or Air Force Academy you and your parents should plan to attend this very important meeting!  See your counselor if you have questions.
