Tipp’s Urban Forest Needs Your Help

Our urban forest has taken a beating the last few years.  Our neighborhood  trees need our help now.  Newly planted trees (within the past 3 years) need to be watered deeply before the ground freezes.  When the leaves are gone, broken and cracked branches, snags, and dead wood need to be removed.  This will help to avoid further branches from falling and improve air circulation and sunlight penetration.  These measures will help our trees weather the winter and emerge into spring stronger.  Call a certified arborist to evaluate your trees.

There are other ways to improve our urban forest as you plant new trees this fall and next spring.  Improved tree varieties with various mature sizes to more correctly “fit’ your property, curb lawn, and parks are available.  Tree varieties with resistance to disease and insects are a must and readily available at many full service retail garden centers and nurseries.  And the property placement of trees in relation to above and underground utilities, street lights, signs, and our homes is critical for the next generation of trees we are leaving for our children.

From your Tipp City Tree Board – Next Meeting is October 10, 2012.
