TIPP CITY – Did you know that three presidents have visited Tipp City?

The Tippecanoe Historical Society has a new display with pictures of the visits of Taft, Reagan and Bush. The display includes autographs, newspaper clippings, and even a shawl and hat worn by Mrs. Nunlist to Springfield for a campaign rally for Abraham Lincoln in 1860. The family owned the City Hotel (now part of the Hotel Gallery). They were donated by her granddaughter, Mildred Shuman.

Also new is a card table donated by the Bill and JoAnn Hepfer family. The top is made up of advertisements for local businesses, probably from the 1940s. Does anyone know the history of this piece?

On Thursday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. in the Tipp Government Center, Michael Krieger Ellis will present a program open to the public.

He portrayed his grandfather, Ned Sprecher, during the 2013 cemetery walk. Ned was a highly decorated Tipp City soldier during World War II. Ellis will share additional information about Ned and also discuss his present position of working with detainees along the southern California border. For further information, call Susie at (937) 698-6798.

The museum also has the society’s 2013 ornament for sale. The Tippecanoe Historical Society’s 2013 ornament is of the Township Building on Third and Main Streets in downtown Tipp City.

The society museum will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9 for “A Winter’s Yuletide Gathering” in downtown Tipp City.

Other groups such as reunions, scout groups, community groups, youth groups, those seeking historical information and anyone just wanting to browse, can make an appointment to view the museum by calling(937) 698-6798, 667-1081 or 667-3977 to make an appointment.
