HandsOn West Central Ohio is celebrating people in action this April, and the program needs your help in recognizing the amazing accomplishments of local volunteers!

HandsOn West Central Ohio, including the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, will host a celebration of volunteers on April 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at A Learning Place in Piqua.  The event will feature a dinner catered by The Backyard Bistro, highlights of volunteer successes from 2010, awards and even finger painting.  For this celebration, HandsOn West Central Ohio is teaming up with Hits 105.5 to recognize the Community Volunteers of the Year in Darke, Logan, Miami and Shelby Counties.  Between now and March 18, members of the community are encouraged to nominate any volunteer who shared his or her talent during 2010 for this second annual award.  Nominations will be accepted via www.hits1055.com, and listeners will be invited to vote for their favorite nominee in each county between March 28 and April 6.  Winners will be announced and awarded an individualized plaque during the celebration of volunteers on April 11.  More than 7,800 votes were cast for last year’s four winners, who included Grace Steenrod of Jackson Center, Kay Kirby of Greenville, Emma Wise of Troy, and even Rocky the therapeutic riding horse from Zanesfield.

This event takes place during National Volunteer Week, a week honoring those who dedicate themselves to taking action and bettering their communities.  Sponsored by the Points of Light Institute and HandsOn Network, of which HandsOn West Central Ohio is an affiliate, National Volunteer Week is also about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities – to put themselves at the center of social change.

Tickets for this event are just $12 each, and HandsOn West Central Ohio serving through RSVP in Darke, Logan, Miami and Shelby Counties may reserve their space at no cost.  To purchase tickets or reserve your seat, please call (937) 778-5220, ext. 461.  Tickets must be reserved by March 28.
