Chamber Supports Income Tax

TIPP CITY OH – The Tipp City Area Chamber of Commerce announced today that it supports the quarter percent income tax levy that will go before the voters on the May 3rd ballot. The Chamber board reviewed the recommendations and proposal made by the Citizens Capital Improvement Committee (CIP) at the Chambers February board meeting.

Tony Greene, Board Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce outlined several reasons why the Chamber board of directors is supporting the income tax levy;

1. Our city is currently in need to repair and upgrade existing city services like aging roadways, replacement of a 38 year old Ladder Truck, renovation and expansion of Fire/EMS Station. It is vital that our business community has a comprehensive street resurfacing program so that our businesses small and large have safe efficient roadways. It is also important that our local police, fire and EMS services are up to date to provide a safe environment for our business community.

2. Like all communities Tipp City is experiencing increases in construction, fuel, and asphalt costs, on the one hand—and negligible growth in income on the other. The longer we let our streets and other needed services go with out having the funds to update them the more they will cost us in the future.

3. This tax levy will help balance the city’s income against its projected expenses, and help ensure that City services do not fail or decline. Our economic growth depends greatly on the investment that we put towards our community.

“Tipp City residents and business owners rely on the City to provide excellent services and infrastructure,” said Matt Owen, President & CEO of the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce. “If we are to keep businesses in Tipp and attract new ones, we must ensure that these essential services do not decline.”

Owen noted that the structure of the levy would also protect seniors on fixed income from shouldering any additional burden. “The tax only applies on earned income, not Social Security or retirement benefits.” Said Owen. “This allows residents who work outside the City to have more of their taxable income invested back into Tipp City.”

The Tipp City Area Chamber of Commerce mission is to be THE advocate for business and economic development in the Tipp City area.
