China Moon: A Miraculous Discovery

Like a star in the East lead the three wise men to Christ it was the China Moon that directed my appetite to being filled on a recent afternoon. All of us ended up blessed with the findings that we made.

The menu offered at China Moon, 1055 S. Miami Street, is extensive, including all the typical Chinese favorites. I’m always torn over what to order when I have Chinese as there are a few certain dishes that I normally select from; Kung Po Chicken, Sweet & Sour Chicken or Beef Chop Suey. The temptation is always strong to be venturesome and try something else, but this is from someone who needs training wheels to ride a bike…daring I’m not. However, for the sake of you the readers I threw caution to the wind and tried the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce.

It was one of the 29 Lunch Special options, which is served with pork fried rice and choice of soup or egg roll for just $4.95 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. My selection was made in part because I had a craving for shrimp and it was written in red, which means its spicy. When it comes to spicy foods, my training wheels are off. I also got the egg roll, because Chinese food without one is like Obama without a teleprompter…incomplete.

The food arrived in a short matter of time and was a colorful display of flavor. It looked so good I almost hated to disturb it, but I only hesitated for a second or two. The egg roll was crisp and filled with a delightful taste. Served as a proper appetizer for the main course.

Steam rolled off of the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, oozing with freshness. I was pleased in that I didn’t have to fish for any of the shrimp, as several large chunky pieces were included. Often such dishes at other places appear to be made for vegetarians as the meat is scarce. The garlic sauce blended perfectly with the carrots, broccoli, tiny corn cobs and other vegetables. It’s flavor had just enough of a kick to awaken the sinuses but not open up the floodgates.

I enjoyed every bite until the last, and may now add Shrimp with Garlic Sauce to my cycle of orders when I have Chinese.

When searching for a satisfying meal, seek out the China Moon and you will be lead to a miraculous discovery. Open seven days a week 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. guests can dine in the spacious dining room or carry-out their orders. To place a carry-out order call 937-698-3881/3882.
