Eagles Soar to Easy Victory

-Sugar Creek, OH

Bellbrook High School dominated every statistical category on Friday night and eventually the scoreboard followed suit as the Golden Eagles ran to an easy 35-13 victory over the Milton-Union Bulldogs. With the loss, MU falls to 1-3 and 0-0 in the conference.
Bellbrook started the scoring with a lightning quick seventy-one yard drive, sparked by a sixty-three yard pass from Kevin Crane to Josh Buckle. The drive culminated with a Justin Nevitt three yard touchdown run. Joe Licher added the extra point, and just 2:26 into the game Bellbrook led 7-0.

A three and out from the M-U offense did little to stem this early tide and after a punt, Bellbrook scored on one play… a sixty-four yard run by Nevitt, who ran wild in the contest. M-U seemed dazed and confused and trailed the Eagles 14-0 with still over seven minutes remaining in the first quarter.

At the end of one quarter, Bellbrook held a 171 to thirty-one yards advantage over the Bulldogs; however, the Eagles spent most of the second quarter trying to get out of its own way. Bellbrook had thirty-five penalty yards in the quarter, and the biggest mistake came with 7:01 left in the quarter. After a big hit from Kaleb Jones, Nevitt fumbled. Shane Eshelman picked up the football and lumbered twenty-seven yards for the Bulldog touchdown. Suddenly in spite of being statistically dominated, the Bulldogs trailed just 14-7.
Bellbrook’s final drive of the half showed promise, but ended with four consecutive penalties taking the Eagles from the M-U 31 yard line all the way back to the Bellbrook 39. Finally, the Bellbrook coaching staff decided to take a knee, and the halftime score stood at 14-7. Bellbrook ended the half with 250 yards and seven first downs. M-U had just fifty-one yards and two first downs.

Halftime did nothing to change the game, and Bellbrook scored three touchdowns in the quarter putting the game out of reach. All of them came from #3 Justin Nevitt on runs of two yards, one yard, and seventeen yards. For the night Nevitt finished with 190 yards rushing on 27 carries. In the quarter Bellbrook had 160 yards to the Bulldogs’ sixteen.

Milton-Union added a late thirteen yard touchdown run by Tyler Brown making the final score 35-13. M-U finished the game with just 104 yards of total offense and continues to search for offensive consistency and rhythm. M-U is scheduled to host the Madison Mohawks on Friday night at Memorial Stadium.
