As reported early this morning by Steve Baker with WHIO, Tipp City Police Officer Adam Grubb was injured while aiding an Ohio State Patrolman with a DUI stop on 25A just north of Blauser Dr. in Tipp City. Officer Grubb pulled up behind the State Patrol vehicle to offer assistance with the DUI stop when his cruiser was hit from behind by Matt Spencer, 21 of Troy.

Chief Davidson shared that Officer Grubb was taken to Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy for injuries to his neck and back, and was released a few hours later but will be on medical leave for 2-3 days recovering from his injuries. Mr. Spencer was tested and charged with DUI after blowing .204 blood alcohol level at the scene. Davidson stated that he believes that damage to Grubb’s cruiser is substantial and is the second such incident within 3 months where Tipp City cruisers are involved in unrelated rear-end traffic crashes.

We asked the Chief about how the second collision will affect his cruiser fleet. Surprisingly enough, both cruisers (from February’s rear-end collision and the one from this morning) were on the list for replacement, so vehicles were already on order.

As an aside, the State Patrolman stop also netted a positive DUI.
