Economic Development Spotlight – Brad Vath

When I was moving my business our of office at 135 E. Main St. and needed to find a new location, I needed to do so quickly. One of the problems with quick, is usually followed with “expensive” or “not ideal”. I can thank Brad Vath, Tipp City’s Assistant City Manager for locating and helping Bash Foo into our new digs here at 140 E. Broadway Ave.

What I needed

I wanted my business to reside within Tipp City as it is my home, however after some brief reviews of office property with the Dayton Development Coalition and Troy Development Council I found those locations to be most idea for my needs. I needed inexpensive office space that I wouldn’t mind fixing up a bit and I needed it now. Troy has a slew of offices for rent, some with rents as low as $0.75/sq. ft. Yea, no joke!

While I made some calls to the Chamber and local property owners, I could not identify just the right facility that would suit the needs of my growing marketing agency. Enter Brad Vath. While I knew he was the economic development lead for Tipp City, I thought for sure I knew of all of the property available in town. How could he help me?? Well, once Brad understood my need for office space and understood what I was looking for, he started making some calls. Within 30 minutes, I had an email from Mr. Vath that identified the two properties he felt best suited me, he contacted both property owners and let them know that they should expect a call, he provided me with their contact information and attached the overlays of the property, indicating the office spaces that were available within the building.

So, how does the story end?

Bash Foo is now located at 140 E. Broadway Ave. here in Tipp City. Our offices are located in the old Tipp Machine and Tool office building. The building hasn’t been occupied in three years, but nothing a few bottles of Lysol cleaner, a paint job and a freshening up of the carpets by Heaven’s Best couldn’t make perfect for us. I didn’t have to move my business out of town, something that makes me VERY happy.

So, the measure of an economic development lead may not just be their ability to bring new businesses to town (something that is sorely lacking BTW) but it also is in retaining the businesses that are already here. What Brad Vath may lack in bubbly charisma, he makes up for in swift and accurate delivery. Brad knew that Mike McDermott moves at light speed and when I want something… absolutely nothing is going to get in my way. He acted quickly, provided me with all of the facts and information I needed to make a decision and was very open to help in any way “after the sale”. All components that a business person needs to make decisions.

I am glad for Brad Vath, Tipp City’s Assistant City Manager and so are my clients. I have received rave reviews of our new office, and have signed more business in the past month than in any one prior. Thank you Mr. Vath for your attention and your service to businesses in Tipp City. For my part, I will work to add as many employees to this new location as the building (and code of course) will allow. Together we can all do our part to revitalize industrial and commercial properties that have been the unfortunate casualties of the new economy.
