Tipp City Schools Save Money Through Smart Energy Management

Greg Smith, Owner of Energy Optimizers, USA and Dr. John Kronour, Tipp City Schools Superintendent both have a vested interest in reducing energy costs in the Tipp City School District. Back in 2009 they began plans to make a series of small changes in the HVAC, mechanical and lighting systems at all 5 school facilities in the district that would result in guaranteed energy savings. Surprisingly, the program comes at no cost to the school district or the Tipp City taxpayers.

The energy management programs have resulted in a 5 month savings of $11,600 with a one year projected savings of $28,500.

Dan Edwards, morning news anchor for WDTN News (Channel 2) in Dayton came up to Tipp City to visit Dr. Kronour and Greg Smith at Tippecanoe High School on Thursday to inspect the work being done and the energy management programs underway. Click here to read his story.

We took the opportunity to give everyone a look at the “boiler-room” of Tippecanoe High School. As you can see, it shares very little in common to the dark and wet maintenance rooms that many of us are familiar with. This room sports the latest in electronic controls to ensure that the pumps only run when they are needed, the chillers are connected to computers that help to maintain a consistent temperature in all rooms of the school. Low tech HVAC and water services connected to high-tech systems that make it much more efficient.
