Hoke Plat – I am distributing an outline of the agreement proposed by the County and a rough map of the area affected. The anticipated start date is April 2012.
Indigent Burials – In a recent memo I told you about the passing of West Milton resident whose family lacked the funds for burial. The State no longer provides funds to the County to assist with burial expenses for indigents. So those expenses become the responsibility of the jurisdiction of the deceased. I don’t think we’ll have to cover a lot of these burials, but you should be aware in the shift of responsibility.
Utilities – I will present an ordinance at the February council meeting; 1) it will change the distribution of revenues we take in for water. Currently we distribute 90% to operations and 10% to capital projects. I will recommend all revenues be posted to operations. 2) I will also recommend a 20% increase in the water rate beginning March (emergency). The redistribution and increase will allow us to go into 2012 with an approximate $120,000 carry-over balance. Because there is another increase scheduled by Troy in 2012, we will likely have to implement another rate increase at the end of 2011/2012.
