Letter to the Editor July 7, 2011

To the Editor;

On July 4th I was able to go to West Milton and watch their 4th of July parade.  The flag being displayed down St. Rt. 48 was a grand display of patriotism, thank you West Milton Fire Department.

It was a very nice parade; except for the beginning and this was something I have never seen.  After the usual law enforcement vehicles, came what I presumed to be local leaders, as there were no signs of who these people were, and a lady campaigning for Mayor of West Milton along with about 15 men, women and children wearing this lady’s campaign tee shirts, and passing out candy and beads. The 4th of July parade is for celebrating our country’s birth, not to campaign for a political office.

The flag of our country with the color guard was next instead of first in line. I don’t know who made up the line of march but to have some politicians and a person campaigning for political office leading a fourth of July parade instead of the color guard really showed a great disrespect to our country and its founders.

I hope that this never happens again in any community’s 4th of July parade.
