LIBRARY’S MICROFILM TO BE DIGITIZED

The Milton-Union Public Library’s newspaper microfilm collection is shipping out and will soon be available in digital form. Until the digitizing process is completed in about a month’s time, the microfilm will be unavailable for viewing.

“Funds from several book sales and rummage sales will enable the New Friends of the Library to sponsor the digitizing of the library’s collection of microfilm and newspapers. By digitizing these materials, patrons will be able to access items much more quickly than the current system which uses a microfilm reader,” says Jeanette Dohner, Friends liaison, “The library currently has issues of the West Milton Record dating back to 1902 on microfilm that will be transferred to CDs which will make viewing, reading and printing articles a great deal easier.”

The Friends applied for and received a $1,000 grant from the Miami County Foundation to help cover the project cost.

We’re very grateful to the Miami County Foundation for the grant,” Dohner continues, “It allows the Friends to sponsor this project while continuing to assist the library with other needed items.”

For more information please visit the library or call 698-5515.
