ALERT Residents of the Tipp City Area

Both Tipp City PD and the Miami County Sheriff’s Dept. have independently reported a rash of home break-ins recently. The criminals are entering unlocked vehicles and utilizing garage door openers to access residences or entering unlocked doors. They are stealing purses, wallets, and similar valuables that people usually leave in the kitchen area off the garage. The Miami County Sheriff’s Dept. believes that the criminals are in their teens to early 20’s who either live here, or know someone who lives in these areas. Early this morning a home on South 2nd Street was entered and a purse was stolen which was later found emptied of its contents on the side of the road (202 South, headed towards Huber Heights). Electronic items and video games were also stolen from the residence.

Stay Vigilant

Police state that they are doing everything humanly possible to make apprehensions which are confidant they will eventually happen.  The Miami County Sheriff’s Dept. has publicized the thefts through the print and TV media to keep residents informed and keep doors and cars locked.  The thefts are occurring in the morning between 3:00 AM and 7:00 AM.  Police encourage residents to call 911 if they notice the slightest unusual occurrence or person(s) lurking in the area. The biggest help the Tipp City PD and Sheriff’s office could use right now is having extra eyes and ears in the community and calling 911 as soon as possible if something out of the ordinary is observed.

*** Update 3/25 Detective Dave Duchak with the Miami County Sheriff’s office stated today that he believes that these thefts are being committed by two individuals who either live here or are from this area as they are familiar with their surroundings. He believes that the burglaries are being committed by drug addicts who need quick cash for their drugs. He shared that there has been a recent explosion of heroin use in Miami County. Miami County residents commit the crimes locally, and then drive to Dayton to get their heroin. Provided advice to residents to keep their vehicles and homes locked up in the evenings and overnight, keep your outside lights on and stay vigilant. Residents of Tipp City should call 911 dispatch to report strange activity or sounds (breaking glass, doors opening, garage doors opening).
