Several ballot initiatives appear to be forming for this November’s election, including a drive to exempt the State of Ohio from the mandates imposed by President Obama’s Health Care reforms.  In addition to an effort by Unions  to repeal the provisions of Senate Bill 5, opponents of Obama-care are also on the march.

The Miami County Liberty Group has joined forces with the Miami County, and Darke County Republican Parties to gather signatures for a petition calling for the health care reforms enacted in 2010 to not apply in Ohio.

Several groups and state governments have raised concerns over whether the healthcare reforms are constitutional, and cases dealing with this question are winding their way through the Federal Court System with differing results.  Ultimately the U.S. Supreme Court may decide the matter but this could take years.   In the mean-time, activists are mounting a petition drive to get the question on the ballot.  If approved, Ohio could opt-out of the  health care reform measures passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama in 2010.

The groups are gathering signatures at various locations, and even going door-to-door.  Currently, there will be a “Petition Drive-Thru” to be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 14th and May 15th in the parking lot of Club 55 in Troy near I-75 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. both days.  Anyone willing to sign a petition can go the  Club 55 parking lot and express their interest.  Petition circulators will be on hand to provide the petition forms, and get signatures from those willing to sign.  The people will not have to leave their cars when doing this, so it will be very easy for them to stop by and show their support.

Signing a petition is not a vote, but rather allows the issue to be placed on the November ballot.   Over 300,000 signatures are needed state-wide for the measure to be submitted to the Secretary of State and if approved, placed on the ballot.  The groups hope to get as many signatures from this area as they can.  “Help us allow Ohioans to choose their healthcare coverage, not politicians in Washington, D.C.” the group says.

Any questions can be directed to the Liberty Group, or the Miami County Republican Party.
