Twenty fourth and fifth graders who had pre-qualified from each of their classrooms battled it out on stage on Dec. 2 at Milton-Union Elementary School. Announcer and Media Specialist D. Earl read the words through over sixteen rounds during the 45 minute long contest. Every student involved acquitted themselves well and showed obvious signs of preparation. Participants faced a gymnasium crowded with the entire fourth and fifth grade classes as well as rows of parents and teachers in a nerve wracking challenge that ended when fourth grader Katarina Lee edged out classmate Rachel Thompson with the word ‘barracks’.
Katarina will represent her school at the next level of competition January 18th at Newton School at 7pm. The MUES Bee was directed by Asst. Principal K. Grothaus and judges were Mrs. K. Woolery and Mrs. H. Wolf.
