M-U PUBLIC LIBRARY LAUNCHES SUMMER READING CLUBS

Children, teens and adults are invited to enter their respective summer reading programs beginning on Saturday, June 4. Program materials and reading logs may be picked up at the library on or after that day, just remember to keep track of reading time until you have your reading log.

The children’s club, “One World Many Stories” will ask kids ages 3 through 12 years old to complete 25 hours of reading before the Monday, August 1 prize drawing. The teen’s club, “You Are Here” and adult’s program, “Novel Destinations,” will require 20 hours of reading. All clubs’ participants may enter twice to be eligible for grand prizes which will be on display during the month of July.

This year’s grand prizes have all been donated by various organizations or community members.

Children who finish can also look forward to a free book, a beanie toy and an invitation to the carnival on Wednesday, July 27. Teens will receive Subway coupons and adults will receive gift certificates for a free book at the September New Friends of the Library book sale.

Wednesday, June 8 @ 1:30—”King Lion’s Gifts” with Lindsey Bonilla who enlists help from the children in the audience to present a multi-cultural folk tale.

Thursday, June 9 @ 10:30 & 1:30—Craft times: make a South American rain stick

Wednesday, June 15 @ 10:30 & 1:30 – “Fun with Felicia: The Philippines”

Thursday, June 16 @ 10:30 & 1:30—Craft times: make an Egyptian mummy

Wednesday, June 22 @ 10:30 & 1:30 — Story times: ”Let’s Visit the Icy Arctic”

Thursday, June 23 @ 10:30 & 1:30—Craft times: make a totem pole

Wednesday, June 29 @ 10:30 & 1:30 – Story times: “Let’s Visit Africa.”

Thursday, June 30 @ 10:30 & 1:30 – “Tie-Dye Day” Bring your own t-shirt or item to tie-dye and dress to be outside.
