Press Release: Ga Ga Ball coming to L T Ball

TIPP CITY, OHIO – December 31, 2009 – Members of the Tipp City Area Community Foundations (TCACF) held a surprise diner at the Coldwater Café to acknowledge and thank former Distribution Committee chairman Matt Timmer for his leadership.  During his term as chairman, the Timmer helped the Foundations through the lengthy negotiations of transferring all of its assets to The Troy Foundation, where it now resides as a component fund.

Leadership for the TCACF rests in our own community while fiscal oversight is maintained by The Troy Foundation.  This partnership allows the Tipp City and Bethel communities to benefit from local leadership and profit from resources pooled with others for investment growth.

On the same day, the Distribution Committee of the Tipp City Area Community Foundations met to consider the final grants of the year.  Along with the other members of the committee, these community leaders considered several grant requests that could benefit its citizens.  In the end, four organizations were chosen to receive seven awards totaling $16,058.13.

Grants awarded in this giving cycle were the following

Miami County Dental clinic

  • $1,096, meets the needs of low-income, uninsured individuals in need of dental care.

Tipp Monroe Community Services

  • $2,000, supports the Eyeglasses Program, which provides one eye exam and a pair of glasses per year for people in need.
  • $4,000, funds the Community Relief Program that provides financial assistance for rent, utilities and prescriptions to individuals.

Tipp City Exempted Village Schools

  • $900, builds a Ga Ga Ball pit for this wildly popular game being brought to Tipp City by Physical Education teacher Jeanne Koch.  Played by the 5th graders on their recent overnight excursion to Camp Kern, this game, also known as Israeli Dodgeball, was the a hit of the trip.
  • $500, gets kids into digging rocks (and fossils)!  With a visit from Mike “The Rock Man” Manning at the Broadway Family Math and Science Night, the whole family can get in on the action.
  • $2,561.35, purchases fiction and nonfiction leveled reading books for 2nd graders at Broadway.  Leveled reading books help teachers address the range of abilities found in the students.

Tipp City Public Library

  • $5,000, helps fill the recent funding gap by providing needed financial resources to keep new book, DVD and CD titles on the shelves.

Since 1943, the Tipp City Area Community Foundations has awarded over $1,297,000 in grants to the community.  Members of the Distribution Committee are Mike Lightle, chair, Heather Bailey, Marilyn Richards, Matt Timmer and Jackie Wahl.  Other trustees include Jesse Chamberlain, Joan Creech, Anita Bowman-Hamber, Nancy McAlpin and Dr. Jim Ranft.

The Tipp City Area Community Foundations is a member fund of The Troy Foundation.  If you would like information about how to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Foundation, or how your organization can apply for a grant, please contact Mike Lightle at (937) 667-4068.
