The Tippecanoe Educational Endowment is pleased to announce Mrs. Linda Ares as our 2009/2010 Teacher of the Year. Nominated by her peers, Mrs. Ares celebrated this special honor last month at the annual TEE fund raising event. Mrs. Ares was surrounded by more than 20 members of her family as she accepted this prestigious award. Mrs. Ares has been employed by Tipp City Schools for 20 years and currently teaches sixth-grade Language Arts and Reading. Congratulations Mrs. Ares!

Congratulations to all students who presented projects in the sixth annual Science Fair for grades 6-12. Fifteen students in grades 7-12 earned Superior ratings, as did two sixth-graders. Good Luck to 14 L. T. Ball students who will advance to district competition at “Just Think” 2010 Invention Convention on Saturday, March 20, at Wright State University. Individual projects include: Zach Carner, Caroline Senseman, Ethan Campbell, Sarah Miller, StephanieYahle and Shelbi Mays. Team entries include: Jessica Miller and Laura Fink, McKayla Mangen and Taylor Law, Angelo Mihalyo and Madelyn Hebb, and Emily Hodge and Madeleine Loges.

More than 105 Nevin Coppock first grade students will participate in the Boonshoft Museum “Kids and Culture” program on March 18.

The Ohio Graduation Test will be administered to the THS sophomore class next week. Freshman will participate in a practice edition of the test.

Tippecanoe Middle School Power of the Pen were very successful in their first tournament Saturday at Mississinawa Valley. The seventh grade team won third place with Maddie Bauder placing second individually. The eighth grade team won first place with Katherine Shirley placing eighth and Andrew Puthoff placing fourth. Students are coached by Mrs. Karen Jackson and Ms. Amy Armentrout.

Tippecanoe High School Earth Systems students and the Angler’s Club will create awareness of Earth Day (April 22) by offering T-Shirts for sale. The $10 proceeds will benefit the Outdoor Land Lab at the high school. Order forms are available via: smsnyder@tippcity.k12.oh.us or jmoore@tippcity.k12.oh.us.

All four members of the Tippecanoe Middle School Mathcounts Team placed in the top 17 of about 120 participants at the Dayton Area competition. The team took an overall fourth place with Alex Graham in 17th place, Richard Grieshop in 14th place, and Samantha Bonifas in 10th place. Brad Bruns, who finished in sixth place is the first TMS student to advance to State competition . He will compete in Columbus on Saturday.

Four Tippecanoe High School students recently received regional awards at the 2010 Ohio Youth Art Exhibition at Stivers School for the Arts, the following students’ artwork will advance to State competition in Columbus: Wendy Wen (2 entries), Jillian Blakey, Leah DeKold, and Phillip Schaefer.

The Ohio Art Education Association Young Peoples Art Exhibition recently recognized artwork created by Broadway kindergartener, Carson Robbins and third grader, Madeline May. The Youth Art Month Exhibition recognized first grader, Patrick McCaffrey, whose work will be included in the Ohio Department of Education display this summer and at the State Convention in November.

INTERMEDIATE/MIDDLE GROUP – 5:30 to 7 p.m., March 16.
Begin at L. T. Ball front office; move to Tippecanoe Middle School gym entrance at 6:15 p.m.

ATHLETIC/EXTRACURRICULAR GROUP – 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., March 22.
Begin at the tennis courts behind Nevin Coppock at 5:30 p.m.;
move to softball/baseball fields and then to City Park.
