• Seniors Leah Schiller and Christina Pentaudi were selected to represent Tippecanoe High School in the District 9 All Star Basketball Game on Thursday, at Edison State Community College.
• Congratulations to seniors, Jillian Blakey and Wendy Wen, for winning a State Award in the 2010 Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition.  Their artwork will be displayed April 18 through May 18, at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus.  This is the first time THS has placed more than one State winner. Both students are taking Advanced Art Studies with Mrs. Stovell.  Jillian is a repeat winner, having also placed in 2008.
• L. T. Ball fifth grader, Emma Smith, has been selected by Children’s International Summer Villages, Inc. (CISV) to represent the United States at the Smokey Mountains Chapter Summer Village. She and three other delegates from Miami County will travel with an adult leader to the camp which will last 28 days and host children from   12 nations.   These delegates will share their culture and national foods, and will use creative expression to discover what they may have in common with students from other lands.
• With the Red Devil’s March 2, win over Eaton (68-42), Coach Matt Pond became the head coach with the most wins in Red Devil basketball history.  Coach Pond now has 166 wins in just 10 seasons.  The record was previously held by former coach, Frank Goldsberry, with 165 wins. Great season, Coach Pond 18-5!
• Just prior to spring break, third graders at Nevin Coppock enjoyed their annual “Cultural Lunch Day.”  Students learned about the cultures of Lebanon, Turkey, Mexico, Italy, South Korea, and Thailand.  Students sampled traditional foods and learned about the different traditions and customs of each culture.
• Nevin Coppock second grade students were given an opportunity to view art from many nations on a guided tour of the Dayton Art Museum on Thursday.  This annual visit, arranged by art teacher, Meggan Klein, is often the first time students have observed art in a museum setting.  Mrs. Klein has conducted this field trip for 24 years!
• The THS Model United Nations delegation competed at the 31st annual North Coast Conference at Kent State Ashtabula during spring break.  Sierra Faler and Marshall Zimmann received the “Excellent” award for their outstanding portrayal of the United States in Security Council III.  Also participating were Brad Hale, Casey Henderson, Joey Maus, Brooke Bowerman, Matt Kolakowski and Max Witeof.
• Representatives from Brukner Nature Center visited the first grade classrooms at Nevin Coppock this week to present “Animal Talk.”   The students learned about wild animals from Ohio that can no longer live on their own in the wild.  “Visitors” included an owl, a opossum, a salamander and a snake.  Students were able to touch the salamander and snake.  In addition, they learned about different habitats, body coverings and diet of each animal..
• THS National Honor Society members will join members from Troy and Sidney for a day of community service on April 17.  Activities include cleaning the grounds at parks and other areas in Tipp City and Troy, a car wash/ bake sale from 1 to 4 p.m. at Auto Zone, 1827 W. Main Street, in Troy, and canned goods collection.
• Kindergarten students from Nevin Coppock expanded their classroom studies of farm animals with a recent visit to Aullwood Farms.  Students witnessed the daily routine of farm life, identified animals and were allowed to pet the baby goats.
• YOU are invited to a special Family Night event to support the Miami County-Relay for Life from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on April 16, at L.T. Ball.  Activities will include Bingo, an inflatable obstacle challenge and a cake walk featuring baked goods from area restaurants.  Check out this year’s “Themed Baskets” and purchase tickets for the drawing on May 10.  Food-Fun-Family-Friends!  For more information or to volunteer, call 937-667-2468.
• Support 4-H!  Mention the Miami County 4-H program to your server at the Troy Waffle House, 1290 Archer Road, from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 9.  Proceeds will benefit Miami County 4-H Camp in Pleasant Hill.
• Congratulations Alumnus:  In 2004, The University of Cincinnati received $2.15 million dollars from the Harriette R. Williams Downey Fund to encourage partnerships with eight non-profit organizations to benefit the Greater Cincinnati area.  2006 THS graduate, Mackenzie English, has played a significant role in the collaborative effort by assisting with the curating and digitizing of Ohio River Valley artifacts at the Cincinnati Museum Center (Union Terminal).  Visit page 8 at http://www.uc.edu/dam/connect/docs/GreaterRewards.pdf for more information.
