WEST MILTON – Members of the Milton-Union Center Stage Show Choir and Red Heat Combo finished their 2012-2013 contest season with the highest finish in school history.

The students participated at the South Dearborn Show Choir Invitational in Indiana on March 9. The choir finished their prelims performance with a “Best Vocals” award and “Grand Champion” (first place) in the Small School category.  They beat seven schools during the daytime competition. Then came the finals performance.

“The kids rocked the stage,” gushed director Kellie Mahaney. “They simply had the performance of a lifetime. They were on fire!”

Milton-Union finished second runner-up in finals behind Loveland and Colerain, both of which are large schools from Cincinnati.

“We were estatic when we realized we beat Beavercreek in finals,” Mahaney said.
“Beavercreek has an excellent program with a long running history of success. The seniors knew they had just accomplished something monumental!”

This year’s show is entitled “Dancin’ Fools.” It includes the songs “Run the Show;” “1000 Ships,” with soloist Grace Warner, “Dancin’ Fool,” with soloist Austin Dickison; “Someone Like You/Use Somebody,” with soloist Matt Brumbaugh; “Nothing Suits Me Like a Suit,” with soloists Dickison, Trey Barnes, Sam Brady, Noah Barth and Nick Simpson; and “Good Enough,” with soloists Elizabeth Busse and Jessica Ogden.

Brady, Barth, Dickison, Simpson and Ogden are all seniors, along with Kate Nealeigh, Jackson Conley, Erin Helser and Sam Witten.

The choir has one last performance on April 20 at Milton-Union High. See any choir student to purchase tickets or call (937) 884-7940.
