L. T. Ball fifth grade student, Ryan Koogler, won third place and a $50 cash prize for his entry in the annual Ohio Nursery and Landscape Association’s statewide Arbor Day poster contest. Ryan’s poster was submitted after being selected from nearly 60 L. T. Ball entries submitted by fifth-grade teachers, Beth Hanes, Darlene McClurg, Michael Moore and Karen Weber.
Hanes said Marilyn Fennell, secretary to the Tipp City Tree Board, contacts her annually and provides a specific theme. “We teach lessons about trees in coordination with the theme,” Hanes said, “then we brainstorm and finally let the children use their imagination to create these posters.” This year’s theme was “Trees are Terrific . . . and Energy Wise”.
The following students also received recognition from the Tipp City Tree Board: Steven Bourne, second place, Angelo Mihalyo, third place, and Honorable Mentions to Abbi Halsey, Brooke Zimmerman, Wesley Koehler, and Kennedy Reeder.
Ryan was honored by Tipp City Mayor Dee Gillis at the L.T. Ball Monday Morning assembly. To view his prize-winning poster, scroll to image No. 3 at: http://www.onla.org/index.cfm/fuseaction/home.showpage/pageID/293/index.htm.
