Support for an Orphanage in a Third World Country

Cin-Day GuildThe Cin-Day Guild of the Network of Biblical Storytellers is presenting a ‘Telling’  for the benefit of the Angel House Orphanage in Tanzania, Africa.  The Network of Biblical Storytellers is an international organization of storytellers dedicated to remembering the scripture stories by heart and telling them as they were first told before they were ever printed.  Because the story is told, much as you would tell about an exciting adventure, it takes on a much clearer meaning as well as being entertaining.  Tellers from Tipp City, Dayton and Cincinnati are presenting “Scripture Stories from the Wilderness” for the enjoyment of all ages. A lively African song will be presented by the Tintinnabulators, the adult handbell choir of Tipp City United Methodist Church, Directed by David Pinkerton.

In Tarime, Tanzania, an orphanage has been built that is housing 48 children with room for more.  The orphanage is the result of the Grass Roots Ministries which was begun in 2003 at the New Carlisle United Methodist Church with a vision to help orphaned children.  This is the first real home for most of these children providing good meals and their first opportunity for an education.  The facilities, include a well constructed building, a deep-water well providing clean drinking water, roof mounted solar collectors, a bountiful shamba (garden),  an elementary shcool, and a secondary school which will be in operation by January 2011.  The support of the Grass Roots Ministries has expanded from a small multidenominational group of churches and individuals in the Dayton area to a larger group of churches and individuals representing many communities in the United States.  Currently, there are 5 full time adults from the U.S. plus the local staff caring for the children.

The Cin-Day Guild of Cincinnati and Dayton has volunteered to help raise money for the mission ministry of Tipp City United Methodist Church’s trip to work in the orphanage in June, 2011.  A Free Will offering will be taken.  The money collected will be used for supplies and donations to the orphanage.  The ‘Telling’ will be in the Great Hall of the Tipp City United Methodist Church, 8 West Main, corner of Third and Main Street, Sunday, October 24, 3:00 p.m.  Light refreshments will follow the presentations.
