Ten Tippecanoe Students Heading For State Science Day

Fourteen Tippecanoe High School & Middle School students competed in the Ohio Academy of Science, West District Science Day, held at Central State University, Wilberforce, Ohio on Saturday, March 20, 2010.  More than 450 students from seven counties participated in the all day event.  Students exhibited projects in science, technology, engineering and mathematics which they worked on from September through February of this year.

District Science Day

All Tippecanoe students who received a superior rating at the Tipp City Schools Science Fair in February were eligible to compete at the District Science Day.  Tipp City students participating were (THS) Alexandra Abboud, Andrew Abboud, Brooke Bowerman, Chris Bruening, Megan Bruening, Steven Chaney, Alexandra Robbins, Briana Schultz, Hannah Walker; (TMS) Thomas Chaney, Evan Hood, Kyla Jones, Sammie Rowland, and Elizabeth Walker.

Tipp City Students Excel

Of the fourteen Tipp City students, ten received superior ratings at the District Science Day and were selected to proceed to the State Science Day held at The Ohio State University in Columbus on Saturday, May 08, 2010, where $2.3 million in scholarships and special awards will be presented.  Those students were Andrew Abboud, Chris Bruening, Steven Chaney, Thomas Chaney, Kyla Jones, Alexandra Robbins, Sammie Rowland, Briana Schultz, Elizabeth Walker, and Hannah Walker.

Winners

Students presented with special awards were:  Brooke Bowerman – American Society of Mechanical Engineers Award and $100 savings bond; Chris Bruening –  International Society of Automation Award; Kyla Jones – International Society of Automation Award; Alexandra Robbins – U.S. Army Award and U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services Award; Briana Schultz – Battelle $500 scholarship and Ohio Governor’s Award of Excellence.

Andrew Abboud, a THS junior, was selected from 4000+ projects to represent the district in the International event.

All of the students did a great job presenting their projects and should be congratulated.
