March 9, 2011: This spring, the Gardens Alive!/Spring Hill Nurseries Display Gardens in historic Tipp City, OH, is opening its garden gates to local families of the community, offering free 9×12’ gardening plots for local Tipp City residents to use in establishing a garden. The new Tipp City Community Garden is fully sponsored by Gardens Alive, a gardening supply company that provides all-natural, environmentally friendly home and garden products.

Inspired by Michelle Obama’s recent White House Garden initiative to promote organic gardening and educate children about growing and eating healthy food, Gardens Alive! started thinking of ways it could help make a difference on a local, community level. Given the company’s Tipp City headquarters, the decision was made to create the Tipp City Community Garden, to provide local families with an opportunity to grow their own healthy, organic garden.

To help the gardeners get started, Gardens Alive! will provide participants with free seeds, transplants, fertilizers, mulch, pest controls, and access to water. We will also have gardening experts available to offer help or advice with any gardening related issues. In addition, the community garden will have a storage shed in which gardeners can access gardening supplies provided by Gardens Alive!, as well as to store their own supplies, if needed.

If you and your family would like to grow your own free garden in the Tipp City Community Gardens, you can contact the Display Garden manager, Craig Harmer, directly at 937-667-2491 x3085, or at Craig@GardensAlive.com.

Families will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis, and garden plots are only available in very limited quantities, so act quickly. This community project is open to citizens of Tipp City and surrounding townships. You must have an adult involved in the activity and on the plot premises while working in your garden.

The Spring Hill Nurseries Garden Center in historic Tipp City, OH, has long been a landmark of the Miami Valley. For over a century, gardeners and tourists have been visiting the Display Gardens to see what’s growing – now you can be a part of our growth and the growth of the community.
