TIPP TALK – ELECTION DAY CITY COUNCIL RESPONSES

TIPP TALK – ELECTION DAY CITY COUNCIL RESPONSES

November 1
by Greg Enslen

City Council elections are coming up, and I got a very interesting question last week from one of my inquiring readers: they wanted to know more about Katie Black volunteering to not accept the City-provided Health Insurance and wondered if any of the other candidates had also pledged to turn down the insurance.  I thought it was a great question, so I passed it along to the various candidates and have summarized their answers below.  Candidates Pat Hale and Don Ochs both declined to comment because I would not be able to publish their entire responses.  We heard from Joe Gibson, Bryan Budding and Katie Black:

  • Joe Gibson said he would decline the insurance, saying that “in an effort to cut costs, all council members should either decline the insurance altogether, or pay the city every dime of what it costs, total, so the tax-payers are not out anything”
  • Bryan Budding said he would decline the insurance, adding that he would “not sponsor or support any act to cancel or take away insurance for those members already receiving it.”
  • Katelyn Black ran on this issue and announced it at her first press conference. She added that “this is an important step in cutting what needs to be cut.”

Don’t forget to get out there and vote on these candidates and all the issues on the ballot, including the Library Levy and Casino issue.  Exercise your rights.

On this week’s episodes of the Get Social Radio Show, we rubbed elbows with Hollywood movie stars, covered the election issues, and presented scary stories for Halloween!  On Monday’s show (Episode 18), we interviewed the cast of the upcoming film “Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day,” which is being released in November.  We chatted about the film and interesting times on the movie set, discussing the 1999 first film and the upcoming sequel.  On Wednesday’s show (Episode 19), we discussed the upcoming levy issues, talked about the city council candidates, and then presented a few short and scary ghost stories for Halloween.  If you like interesting chats, topics of interest to Tipp Citians, or want to hear more about what’s going on, tune in to our Internet Radio Show but going to www.GetSocialradio.com.  You can listen live or join our chat room.  All of our episodes are also available for download on iTunes – just search under “Podcasts” for “Get Social Radio”.  See you there!

Winters Yuletide Gathering is coming up November 14 and 15 – there has been some confusion on the dates.  Remind your guests and out-of-town visitors about the upcoming annual Winter’s Yuletide Gathering event and shopkeepers open house.  Every dollar you spend locally helps keep money (and tax dollars) in our community and support local businesses and shopkeepers.  So skip that next trip to Target and spread some money around downtown!  Nearly all our merchants will be offering holiday specials; plus, there will carolers and carriage rides.  The Downtown Tipp City Partnership and Tipp City Visitor’s Bureau (www.visittippcity.org) are working hard on an all-new printed downtown Visitor’s Guide and hope to release it during Winter’s Gathering – keep those fingers crossed!
