DTCP Appreciation Dinner

Everyone had a blast at the annual DTCP Appreciation Dinner last week, with Jim Valekis leading the festivities. I particularly enjoyed myself—probably because I didn’t have to get up and make a speech! Everyone enjoyed the DTCP Social and appetizers beforehand, and then Jim took over, leading us through a series of speakers. Dee Gillis proceeded over the swearing-in ceremony to install the 2012 Board and Officers. Near the end of the evening, Jim spoke about his vision for our organization and the projects we would undertake in 2012 and said goodbye to our employee Liz Sonnanstine, who has taken a position with the Chamber of Commerce.

Terri Bessler and Kevin Guigou announced a new downtown business signage program called “Key into Tipp,” with plans to create and display matching signs in downtown shops and restaurants to highlight the historical and social aspects of the property.  The first sign, at Midwest Memories, will go up soon and serve as a pilot for the program, which the DTCP Design committee hopes to roll out this year. Stop by and look at the sign-it’s neat!

Oh, and Terri is looking for more historical details to add to the poster. Do you know anything about the large building located at 20 and 24 West Main Street?  Send it to me (www.gregenslen.com) and it might get included on the poster! The posters will also include a QR code, which when scanned by a smart phone will take the user to a dedicated web page with more information about the historical property.

Art for the Heart

This past Saturday, the Tipp City Area Arts Council held their “Art for the Heart” artisan showcase and art sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on February 11 at the Zion Lutheran Church at the corner of Third and Main streets in downtown Tipp City.

This showcase featured art, photography, pottery, paintings and more from local artists, door prizes, and food served by Ruth White and the “Sisters of the Skillet.”

And I was there as well!  It was my first book signing of the new year, and I signed and sold copies of my four books: “Black Bird“, “The Ghost of Blackwood Lane“, “Tipp Talk 2010“, and my newest book, “The 9/11 Machine“.  I got to visit with a lot of familiar faces, even though the morning was so bitterly cold I would have preferred to stay home, safe and warm.  But even with the cold weather there was a great turnout—thanks to everyone who braved the cold and came out to support arts—and artists—in Tipp City!

Kids Avenue at Ginghamsburg

The folks at the Ginghamsburg Church and the Avenue will be holding a Tipp City’s Kids’ Consignment Sale and Boutique Avenue on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The consignment sale will feature brand name kids clothing, newborn to teen sizes, maternity needs, toys/games, furniture, nursery items, bedding, strollers, bikes, shoes, books and DVD’s. The kid’s consignment sale is sponsored by Mom2Mom Ministry.

This year will also include Boutique Avenue, where they will feature “Handcrafted Items with Kids in Mind! Anything you need to raise a kid!” to help a local family with a daughter with Juvenile Arthritis.

For sale will be doll clothes, hair bows, baby care items and more! $1 donations will be accepted at the door to Help Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.  Ginghamsburg Church is located at 6759 S. County Rd 25 A and cash, Visa or MasterCard will be accepted, but they will not be accepting checks. And you can “Like” the event on Facebook at “Kids’Avenue at Ginghamsburg.”

The Willowtree Inn

I read on Tipp News Daily that the Willowtree Inn has been sold to a new owner, who plans to spend some time renovating the location and then open it back up for events and celebrations! The Willowtree Inn is located west of town and Ben Bickert, the new owner said in the article that he “wants everyone to know that the Willowtree WILL be back in business.”

According to the article, Bickert graduated from Troy High School and Wright State University before marrying his wife Erin at the Willowtree Inn several years ago, and that’s when they fell in love with the location.

I hope they can get the Willowtree Inn back up and running because the location holds special memories for me as well—my wife Samantha and I got married there in 2000. And nine years later, we were back along with the members of the Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers for our first match ever, held in 2009 against the Kettering Clodbusters.  Good luck, Ben!
