Tipp City – on TV?

A few weeks back there was quite a flurry of discussion on Facebook about a group of folks visiting our fair burg from out of town—Hollywood, in fact!  I saw folks in dark clothes and trench coats walking around town, and one of them was carting a large camera, filming other folks walking up and down Main Street.  I’m usually pretty up to speed on this kind of thing, and after living in Los Angeles for years, I can spot a production truck and the gathered throng of production assistants from 100 yards away.  I was in the downtown and the first thing I noticed was a group of folks smoking on street corners.  Funny that I would notice that! I guess I’m just not used to seeing folks smoking anymore.  And I was asked by a surly-looking fellow about the closest coffee shop, another clear indicator that they weren’t from Tipp.

The scuttlebutt on the street was that the filmmakers were here shooting something related to Browse Awhile Books and the multiple paranormal investigations that have been held in that location over the past two years—in fact, I heard from a source that it was the Ghost Hunters (SyFy) TV show.  They had been in the Dayton area the day before, filming a segment at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

Last week it was announced by intrepid and fellow Gazette writer Mike Woody that in fact the taping was for a different “ghost” show that I had never heard of: My Ghost Story, which airs on the Biography Channel.  The show recounts ghost stories from ordinary people, backed up by video evidence and eye witness accounts.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Tipp-City centric episode, so as soon as I hear anything about the episode and when it will air, I’ll let you know.  Now I just have to befriend someone who gets the Biography Channel!

Kids Avenue at Ginghamsburg

The folks at the Ginghamsburg Church and the Avenue will be holding a Tipp City’s Kids’ Consignment Sale and Boutique Avenue on Saturday, March 3, 2012 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The consignment sale will feature brand name kids clothing, newborn to teen sizes, maternity needs, toys/games, furniture, nursery items, bedding, strollers, bikes, shoes, books and DVD’s. The kid’s consignment sale is sponsored by Mom2Mom Ministry.

This year will also include Boutique Avenue, where they will feature “Handcrafted Items with Kids in Mind! Anything you need to raise a kid!” to help a local family with a daughter with Juvenile Arthritis.

For sale will be doll clothes, hair bows, baby care items and more! $1 donations will be accepted at the door to Help Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.  Ginghamsburg Church is located at 6759 S. County Rd 25 A and cash, Visa or MasterCard will be accepted, but they will not be accepting checks. And you can “Like” the event on Facebook at “Kids’Avenue at Ginghamsburg.”

Scene 75 and Marions Updates

I mentioned a few weeks back about the new $5 million entertainment complex that’s coming to Miller Lane, just down the road from us. It’s planned to be one of the largest venues of its kind in the country!  The complex is to be called Scene75 and will be located near the off-ramp at I-75 and Benchwood Road, where drivers exit the highway to access the strip of restaurants and shops at Miller Lane, although the entertainment complex will be on the opposite side of the highway from Miller Lane.

I swung by there the other day and the location is indeed buzzing with activity—electricians and plumbers heading inside, and lots of trucks in the parking lot.  I also noticed a new “coming soon” sign near the highway.  I’m starting to get excited!

Plans for the 124,000-square-foot entertainment complex include an indoor electric go-kart track, a multi-sensory 4-D theatre, outdoor sand volleyball courts, video game arcade, a multi-level laser tag arena, a bouncy/inflatables area similar to Troy’s “Jumpies,” a full-service restaurant, and two indoor bars. They are shooting to open the venue in April.

For more information, see their Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/Scene75. They are currently working on a website to be launched soon.

Has anyone made it up to the new Marion’s Pizza in Troy?  The website says that they are open, but I haven’t gotten a chance to swing by there yet and pick up one of their amazing pies.   I still can’t believe they only accept cash—and the pizza is so good, the customers put up with the inconvenience.  Pretty soon every other place in the world will let you pay with your phone (or maybe your thumbprint) and Marion’s will still accept only cold, hard cash.
