USMC Harrier joins Vectren Dayton Air Show lineup Dayton’s 1 of only 8 air shows selected for ‘Jump Jet’ demonstration

Dayton, Ohio— A U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier will show off its gravity-defying vertical flight capability at the 2014 Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger on June 28th and 29th at Dayton International Airport.

Its ability to operate from austere bases and employ a variety of weapons makes the Harrier a vital weapon for engaging surface and air targets, escorting helicopters and conducting deep air support. In Dayton, the Harrier will show why it’s nicknamed the “Jump Jet” as it blasts its jet exhaust straight down for a vertical landing.

“Given the reduced military performance in air shows this year, we are thrilled to present the Marine Corps’ Harrier flight demonstration in addition to the U.S. Navy Blue Angels,” said Michael Emoff, chairman of the United States Air and Trade Show Inc., the nonprofit producer of the annual show. “The selection process was extremely competitive. Our event was chosen as one of only eight sites to receive a Harrier demonstration.”

In addition to the Blue Angels, the air show will feature Sean D. Tucker and Patty Wagstaff, two National Aviation Hall of Fame enshrinees, as well as the North American AeroShell Aerobatic Team and the Shockwave jet truck.

Ticket prices remain unchanged from 2013. The popular Chairman’s Club, Pavilion, Family 4 Pack, and Blue Sky Chalet are now on sale, offering a range of seating amenities. Tickets can conveniently be purchased through our show website at www.daytonairshow.com. Beginning May 19, 2014, deep discount general admission tickets will also be on sale at more than 100 Kroger stores in the Dayton-Cincinnati region.

Founded in 1975, the Vectren Dayton Air Show Presented by Kroger is one of North America’s premier air shows. It features world-class aerobatic champions, military jet demonstrations and entertainment for the whole family, celebrating Dayton’s rich aviation heritage as home of the Wright Brothers, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and National Aviation Heritage Area.

It is produced by the United States Air and Trade Show, Inc., a 501(c)(6) not-for-profit Ohio corporation that relies on sponsorship and community support to offset costs. The Dayton/Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau estimates the show adds $3.2 million to the region’s economy every year.
