Chris Long, program host, invited Mike Huff, architect of Ruetschle Architects in Dayton, as the guest speaker for the February 14 West Milton Rotary Club. He provided the Rotarians with an update on the Milton-Union Schools construction project of the new K-12 building of over 215,000 square feet.
Huff also explained several green initiatives that are part of the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design (LEED). Among them are a wind turbine, rainwater harvesting system (flushing toilets with rainwater), solar thermal and photovaultaic, advanced building metering/monitoring, high efficiency chillers/ice storage and daylighting.
Currently the building is on schedule and under budget. The new school is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012.
