Today is my birthday… 39 years old.
Yes, I said old and not young because age is not something that I fear or despise. In fact, I welcome the opportunity of having many more. Some say age is a state of mind but I find that it is more a state of existence. I have grown to love many things that are aged. Cheese, wine, beef and whiskey for example. They all have more life and more substance and more balance than when they were young. They are valued much more highly than their more juvenile counterparts. They engender respect and are held to a much higher standard.
Looking back at 39 years I have explored opportunities like Magellan and harvested success like John Deere. I have left behind the remnants of past careers while retaining the life-long experience that each one provided.
So no, I do not fret what age has in store for me, I welcome each new year and the opportunities that it provides to strengthen the relationships I have now, as well as expose the ones that I have yet to explore. Quoting a corny political slogan, “are you better off now than you were before” I wish to always and each day respond enthusiastically, YES!
