Just wanted to share a recent experience with a roofing company that I believe others should ‘buyer beware’.
I am responsible for managing the physical office at HealthPark Dentistry and have been for over 10 years. Recently, the building owners were approached by a roofing company that told them a new roof was needed. This company salesperson did a thorough job in photographing and documenting several concerns and provided a quote.
Our existing roof had been installed September 2002.
For significant purchases for our business I always get 3 quotes. Due to the incredible expense of this quote, this time, I got 4 quotes. I asked 3 additional roofing companies (some small time and other more established) to come to the office and give me a quote. I did not tell them our situation so that I would not bias their recommendations.
All 3 roofing companies told me that a new roof would not be necessary now. That within 10 years, we would need a new roof and there would be some specific changes needed at that time.
One of the quotes came from the company that placed our roof in 2002 – and they provided a copy of the original quote for the roof at that time. Pointing out that the crew leader for the installation of our roof in 2002 is the salesperson at the roofing company now telling us we need a new roof only 9 years later!!
Obviously, we did not proceed to install a new roof. We remain clients with the original roofing company and thanked the other vendors for their time quoting us.
I did not share the names of the roofing companies in this letter because I have no interest in publicly embarrassing them or causing any potential legal drama. However, I want the citizens of Tipp City and Troy to know that if you are purchasing a new roof – get at least a second opinion!
